From Barcelona to Sóller: The 9th Marítim–Sóller Regatta

Last Friday at 11:30 a.m., the 9th edition of the Marítim–Sóller Regatta got underway, with 20 boats entered across four categories: Single-handed, Double-handed, Crew Group 1 and Crew Group 2.

A passage shaped by changing weather conditions

The start took place on schedule for all classes in light northerly winds. The wind subsequently veered right and settled into a westerly (W), providing comfortable and enjoyable overnight sailing.

The night offered particularly striking conditions, with a star-filled sky and a new moon providing the perfect setting to enjoy the anticipated meteor shower. As the wind eased, a strong south-easterly (SE) current helped carry the boats towards Sóller.

The first boats reached the island on Saturday morning, when dense fog covered Sóller Harbour and left the area becalmed within a five-mile radius. As a result, several boats converged on the finish line within a very short time window, creating a challenge for the race committee, which once again handled the situation excellently.

Prize-giving at Marina Tramuntana

On Sunday, the prize-giving ceremony and a lunch bringing participants together took place at Marina Tramuntana, with representatives from Sóller Town Council and Tides Marine, the event’s main sponsor, in attendance.

Following the prize-giving and before lunch, a prize draw was also held, featuring gifts provided by the event’s supporting partners, Tides Marine and Obras Vivas.

The return passage follows the weather forecast

The return passage was also shaped by the weather. As forecast, the boats sailed in westerly (W) winds until 3:30 a.m., followed by three hours of calm conditions. A light north-easterly (NE) breeze then allowed the boats to complete the return journey.
